About 17-0
We are film-room people. Long before this was a website, it was a group of us pausing the tape, rewinding the same third-and-6, and arguing about the same thing every scout eventually argues about: a perfect season is not a talent contest. It is a scheme problem. The 1972 Dolphins did not go 17-0 because they had the eleven best players alive — they went 17-0 because Shula's staff built a system where every piece did one job well and the whole thing covered for itself. That is the template. That is what we wanted to put in a browser.
Why we built it
Most "draft an all-time roster" games treat the head coach like a bumper sticker — a flat stat bonus stapled to the top of your lineup, disconnected from the five legends underneath it. To us that reads the game backwards. The staff is not decoration; the staff is the scheme. So we built 17-0 around a real coach-fit engine: draft five skill-position legends and a head coach, and every coach carries genuine preferred and incompatible player archetypes. Hire a coordinator whose system fits your personnel and you earn it on the scoreboard. Hire one who fights your roster and the tape shows it — a named penalty, not a shrug. You are not stacking stars. You are installing an offense and hiring the staff to run it.
The guides read the same way: X's and O's, situational football, and honest scouting of every other game in the "17-0" genre — how each one scores, what it hides, and where the scheme actually lives. Chalk talk, not hype.
